In March, 15 communities in Kailahun district displayed creativity and ingenuity in creating toys for children using locally available materials such as sticks, recycled plastic bottles, rubber, and paper.
These communities are piloting the Championing Play project – a pilot by Save the Children and LEGO Foundation.
The project focuses on improving the quality of play for children aged 0-5, particularly those with adolescent parents or caregivers. The innovation in locally-made toys makes play accessible, promotes sustainability, and fosters creativity and critical thinking in children.
The toy-making innovation is an excellent example of simple, low-cost solutions that can have a significant impact on children's quality of life.
