Our History

Save the Children began working in Sierra Leone in 1999 in response to the war. Initial focus was on child reunification during the war - Save the Children helped children to find their parents or family members and helped those children that had been forced into the fighting as child soldiers. Save the Children developed our current Country Strategic Plan (Country of Strategic Plan) that covers 2022-2024 and sets out our overall objectives in fulfilling all rights of children and providing social development support in four thematic program area: Child Protection, Education, Health and Child Rights Governance. We are a dual mandate organisation responding in both development and humanitarian context.
