Save the Children works for and with children and young people to achieve results for them. To make sure that what we do is leading to positive change, two of our young champions; Salmata Davies and Alex Michael Sesay met with Senior Management to talk frankly about things that are affecting girls and boys in communities around Freetown.

Top of their list were teenage pregnancy and early marriage, closely followed by sexual violence and drug abuse.  They shed light on some of the dangers they face every day; high risk “no go” areas for girls in the evenings and; peer pressure for boys that lead to drug abuse and gangs. They talked about the benefits of the projects we are implementing and urged management to continue supporting vulnerable communities because “they are transforming children’s lives. We are the evidence.” Said Salmata.

The young champions impressed management with their frankness and passion for advocacy, especially around protection and education. We will continue to follow Salmata and Alex’s advocacy journey and keep you posted.
