2020 Results are in for the Accelerated Education and Kimi projects

Tuesday 6 October 2020

We are happy to share with you another GREAT YEAR OF SUCCESS for two of our education projects in Pujehun; the Accelerated Education Project (AEP) and Kimi riverine education project also known as Tobells.

For 2020, the National Primary School Examinations (NPSE) pass rates are 91% for Kimi project and 88% for AEP. This is incredible considering the challenges children in these remote communities faced when COVID-19 interrupted their school year and learning.

The rise in pass rates for Kimi has been attributed to community involvement and the establishment of reading clubs run by volunteer teachers during school closures. Groups were provided learning materials including radios to ensure children had access to the radio teaching programmes.

The pass rate dropped for AEP from 95% in 2019 as result of COVID-19. Majority of the AEP students are mothers and over aged children who often contribute to family income. With restriction of movement and closure of local weekly markets, most left their communities to find other sources of income to support their families; returning a few days before the exams.

Despite the challenges, the results show the positive impact of both projects, providing quality  education to the most vulnerable groups in the district.  We Congratulate our brilliant girls and boys of Pujehun and thank our project teams for their continued dedication to achieving results for children.
